Beautiful patinated bronze statue of Diana the Huntress, also known as the Nymph of Diana, based on a work by Lucie Signoret-Ledieu. It depicts the goddess seated on a tree trunk, holding her bow with one finger and waving a trumpet-shaped flower with the other to a sea monster at her feet. Her quiver is placed against the tree trunk. This print is signed "Mme Signoret Ledieu" on the terrace. It bears an AB foundry stamp. The sculpture is placed on a bronze swivel base with a cartouche giving the title of the work, the artist's name and the words "récompensé au salon" ("awarded at the Salon").
Lucie SIGNORET-LEDIEU (1858-1904) was a French artist and pupil of Jean Gautherin. She exhibited plaster figures at the Salon from 1878. She was particularly fond of graceful compositions, and her Diane chasseresse, known as Nymphe de Diane, was a great success at the Salon des artistes français in 1889, winning a prize.
