Olivier MOURGUE (b. 1939) studied at the École Boulle and the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs in Paris. After several internships in Finland and Sweden, Olivier Mourgue began a long collaboration with furniture manufacturer Airborne International in 1963. The Djinn series (1964 -1965) in polyurethane foam covered with colored jersey, noticed by Stanley Kubrick for his film "2001, A Space Odyssey", won the First International Design Award. The Tric-Trac (1964), Whist (1965), Montréal (1967) and Cubique (1968) series of chairs followed. In the 1970s, Olivier Mourgue began research into modular housing, and with the help of the ARC, he designed an F4 low-income housing project, with mobile blocks for each function (1971). His research continued with the Mobile I studio, a replica of his Parisian studio designed and equipped to move anywhere. Mourgue also turned to the creation of poetic, light and mobile objects: the Bouloum seat (1970), the series of toy seats: Papillon, Serpent, Poupée Homme (1973), or the Boîtes à climat series (1974).... From 1976 onwards, Olivier Mourgue retired to Brittany, where he taught at the Brest School of Art. Design period, Circa: 1968 Dim: W:82cm, D:76cm, H:63cm.
