A rare, finely chased and gilded bronze desk inkwell in the form of an armillary sphere, opening in two parts to reveal a compartmentalized interior. Circular base with a pedestal foot. A beautifully crafted Neoclassical piece retaining its original gilding, likely a work of the Russian manufactory of Tula. A similar inkwell in polished steel is held at the Hermitage Museum. Louis XVI period, circa 1770. Dimensions: L: 11 cm, D: 11 cm, H: 21 cm.
