table mirror with a scalloped edge, mounted on a micro-mosaic stand decorated with daisies on a turquoise background. It is set in a wooden frame. The intricate foliage and floral motifs are in the naturalistic style of the late 19th century. The edge of the mirror is gilded, which enhances the brilliance of the reflection. The glass micro-mosaic on this piece is likely a Venetian work dating from around 1870.
Micromosaic , Cesare Aguatti and Giacomo Raffaelli, who invented tesserae made from spun glass: smalti filati. The glass is molten and amalgamated with other glass of different colors. This allows for the creation of glass "rods" or canes, which are then very finely cut into pieces less than 2 mm in diameter. Micromosaic objects, made in Italy, gained popularity in Europe during the Grand Tour era.
