Painting on wood panel depicting French cuirassiers charging the British squares during the Battle of Waterloo. Signed Eugène Louis Charpentier (1811-1890)
A student of François Gérard and Léon Cogniet, he is known primarily for his battle scenes, most of which are preserved at the Palace of Versailles. He also painted portraits, the most famous of which is that of George Sand (1839). He died in 1890 in Paris and is buried in Montparnasse Cemetery.
