A pair of gilt bronze candlesticks depicting architectural elements from Gothic cathedrals. The base, with straight or curved sides, rests on six scalloped feet. The first level evokes the portals of Gothic churches with all the ornamentation of that period. The second level features pointed arches and flying buttresses; then a level of niches decorated with Gothic statues; finally, the fourth, openwork level ends with forms reminiscent of the gargoyles so prevalent in the architecture of that era. 19th century, circa 1850. Dimensions: W: 17cm, D: 17cm, H: 75cm.
