Pair of Art Deco bedside tables Macassar ebony veneer , by the decorator Claude de Plasse . Each table features a drawer with a chrome-plated metal handle and a small, square storage compartment. Macassar ebony is a wood with alternating black and cream hues. It was widely used during the Art Deco period for decoration and the manufacture of high-end furniture. This type of wood is primarily produced in Indonesia and takes its name from the city of Makassar.
