Pair of biscuit porcelain sculptures representing eagles. Work from the second half of the 19th century, bearing the incised mark "Mre. Imple. de Sèvres" (not guaranteed).
An important pair of biscuit porcelain eagles, depicted as pendants, their wings slightly outstretched, standing on a circular base. The abundant plumage is rendered with great attention to detail, characteristic of pieces inspired by the Imperial style. The two figures face each other in a hieratic pose, evoking allegories of power and vigilance. Each base is incised with the inscription "Mre. Imple. de Sèvres." However, in the absence of the additional marks usually found on official Sèvres productions, this attribution cannot be definitively confirmed. It could be a contemporary work, in the Sèvres style, by a third-party manufacturer that applied an imitated mark.
Condition: Very good overall condition. Minor handling marks on the bases, some traces of old metal mountings visible under the plinths. No apparent restoration.
Notes: Designed as a pendant, these two eagle figures illustrate the taste for symbolic ornament in the time of Napoleon III, when the motif of the imperial eagle was regularly used in the decorative arts.
