A pair of porcelain vases with gilt-bronze mounts in the form of covered urns. The body is decorated with a circle of young women draped in antique style, wearing peplos and chitons. Their individual poses delicately convey the movement of a dance. Above them is a frieze of meandering lines. The twisted foot, decorated with vines, rests on a square bronze plinth with four feet adorned with small flowers. The lid features a handle in the form of a pine cone. Both vases bear an apocryphal mark of the Sèvres manufactory on the lower part of the body.
These urns in the Greek style are characteristic of the return to classicism in the Louis XVI style. Influenced by the archaeological discoveries of Pompeii and Herculaneum, artisans created objects inspired by Antiquity.
