Four Empire-period gilt and patinated bronze wall sconces, adorned with winged Victories in sheaths, holding the four light arms and resting on a globe. The patinated bronze shafts are decorated with triumphal wreaths and winged torches. The light arms are finely chased with palmettes, griffins, and masks. They rest on lion heads. The ornamentation of this rigorously symmetrical set of sconces is centered around the allegorical figure of Roman Victory and her principal attributes. The object of a true cult in Imperial Rome, Victory became a decorative motif representative of the Empire style.
Condition report: all four wall lights are in very good condition.
