A pair of green marble baluster cassolettes, the mounts with twisted handles in finely chased gilt bronze decorated with rosettes, acanthus leaves, and laurel leaves. The openwork lid is surmounted by a pine cone. Stamped "Raulin" for Victor Raulin (active 1867-1925).
A cabinetmaker and, above all, an art bronzer, he began his career with his father at 93 rue de Turenne, where they participated together in an exhibition in 1867. He became independent in 1878 and continued his work until 1925. He participated in the Universal Exhibitions in Paris in 1878 and 1889, where he won silver medals. He later established his workshop at 110 rue Vieille du Temple and then at 209 Boulevard Saint-Germain. High-quality bronze mounts signed by Raulin, such as our pair of cassolettes, can still be found on the market.
