A pair of hexagonal Satsuma porcelain vases richly decorated with polychrome enamels and gold, featuring haloed figures in a landscape. The neck and shoulder are decorated with geometric patterns. Each vase bears a mark on the base. Satsuma, Japan , early 20th century. Circa 1910.
Background: Between 1860 and the beginning of the 20th century, Europe experienced a veritable revolution in perception thanks to "Japonisme." This term referred to the craze for everything Japanese, imitating its style and technique. This unique fashion, which lasted nearly half a century, spread to all Western countries, including France, which enthusiastically embraced the prints and ceramics of Japanese artists. These works of art arrived in Europe through collectors, but also, and especially, through world's fairs.
Condition report: both vases are in very good condition, the polychrome decoration and gilding have not suffered any wear.
