Pair of three-light candelabra in chased and gilded bronze, signed F. Barbedienne, Paris.
An elegant pair of three-light candelabra in finely chased and gilded bronze, in the Empire style. Each tapered stem rests on a circular base decorated with water leaves and gadroons. It is surmounted by a bouquet of stylized flames from which three candle arms emerge, formed by swans with outstretched wings, supporting candle holders adorned with palmettes and foliage. The treatment of the volumes and the quality of the workmanship testify to the expertise of the Barbedienne firm. Each piece bears the engraved signature F. Barbedienne, Paris, attesting to its production by one of the most celebrated bronze art houses of the 19th century, renowned for the quality of its castings and gilding.
We fitted them with battery-operated candle-like lights that perfectly simulate old-fashioned lighting. This pair has been drilled for electrification and can be re-electrified if brighter lighting is required.
Condition: very good overall condition. Original gilding well preserved, slight signs of wear consistent with age.
