A pair of Nubian torchbearers, carved and lacquered in black wood for the bodies and richly adorned with polychrome and gilt garments, stand on a square wooden base painted to imitate porphyry marble. They are electrified and each has a polished glass flame at the tip. Venetian work, 19th century. The square base measures 39 cm on each side. Circa 1850.
