An important pair of baluster vases in jade-colored opaline glass with gilt brass mounts, the shoulders adorned with laurel garlands surmounted by an openwork gallery encircling the neck, the opening of which is highlighted by a raised gilt brass band. The slender body is set within a rounded base enlivened by projecting gadroons and a frieze of posts. The rim of the body is decorated with floral garlands supported by fluted columns topped with satyr heads and terminating in four lion's paws. Each vase rests on a stepped circular base chased with foliage. Circa 1880.
