Important pair of Napoleon III ewers in chased ormolu with rich relief decoration of stylized foliage, palmette friezes and vine shoots framing a frieze of putti representing the quadrivium (the four mathematical sciences in ancient theory: arithmetic, geometry, music and astronomy). The handle is adorned with a cherub in the round and vine scrolls, ending in a Satyr's head. Each ewer rests on a round base decorated with fluting and vine shoots. Circa: 1870
