Important pair of Napoleon III ewers in chased gilt bronze with rich decoration in relief of stylized foliage, friezes of palmettes, and vines framing a frieze of putti realizing the quadrivium (the set of the four mathematical sciences in the ancient theory: arithmetic, geometry, music, astronomy). The handle is decorated with a cherub in the round and scrolling vine branches, ending with a head of Satyr. Each ewer rests on a round foot decorated with flutes and vine branches.
