Beautiful pair of Louis XV period mercury ormolu andirons. The two symmetrical pendant putti are seated on leafy scrolls. Circa: 1760
Andirons gave the opportunity to bronzemakers under Louis XV to display their utmost imagination, combining different rocaille motifs or imitating nature. Indeed, the ever-increasing concern for realism in the treatment of bronze reflects the desire to rival nature.
