A pair of Restoration period gilt and chased bronze candlesticks. The fluted, slightly flared stem is adorned at the ends with delicately worked myrtle leaves, florets, and acanthus leaves. Each candlestick rests on a circular base decorated with floral motifs on a matte background, framed by a frieze of water leaves. The simple forms and the refined decoration testify to the virtuosity of French artisans during the Restoration period. Restoration period, circa 1820. Dimensions: W: 13.5 cm, D: 13.5 cm, H: 29 cm. In good overall condition, with minor oxidation spots on the bronze. The gilding is original.
