The entire piece rests on a circular griotte red marble plinth. Auguste Moreau (1834-1917) was the son of the painter and sculptor Jean-Baptiste Moreau. He learned sculpture from his older brother, Mathurin. He is associated with the Moreau dynasty, with his genre scenes, pastoral scenes, allegories, and his realistic and graceful style.
