Two Romantic paintings depicting a country landscape with a mill, and a rural scene featuring shepherds with their flocks and peasants dancing or chatting. This theme, known as the"pastoral", was very popular in 18th-century French painting, and is in line with Rousseau's ideas of the original harmony between man and nature. French school circa 1820.
