Art Nouveau chased gilt bronze clock with foliate decoration. The frame depicts a nude woman reclining in a leaf and a child holding a flower. The circular enameled dial shows the hours in Arabic numerals. It is decorated with flowers in whiplash curves. The back is adorned with an openwork rosette. The plate is signed A.D. Mougin. It is numbered 3576.
Adolphe Mougin (1848-1928) was a French watchmaker who won various medals at the Paris World Fairs between 1889 and 1900. He worked on eclectic clocks imitating the styles of the past, before developing the highly popular Art Nouveau pieces around 1900. Art Nouveau was an artistic movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, characterized by curved lines inspired by plants.
