Chased and gilded bronze clock on the theme of the allegory of the gardener, represented standing, surrounded by a rabbit and his gardening tools: watering can, shovel and rake. On a stump next to him rests his hat. The rural subject of our clock illustrates the taste of Jean-Jacques Rousseau's time for nature and country life. A central fluted column supports the white enamelled dial with Roman and Arabic numerals and a second hand movement. The column is decorated with a laurel garland and the dial is surmounted by an antique basin. The set rests on a base with cut sides, decorated with floral motifs and a lion's head, above four claw feet.
