A porcelain jardinière with polychrome and gold decoration, mounted in chased and gilded bronze. It is adorned with cartouches framed in gold, one side depicting a gallant couple, the other a bird on a branch. The interior is decorated with a garland encircling the basin, with a bouquet of flowers at its center. Below the basin, a young man is shown playing the horn for a woman in the shade of a tree. Both figures are depicted nude, draped in fabric, and wearing laurel wreaths. The tree branches extend down the sides of the basin, forming the handles. These handles are decorated with putti ending in scrolling foliage. The piece rests on a stepped base with six foliate feet. Circa 1860
