A biscuit porcelain statuette from the Rudolstadt-Volkstedt depicting Psyche , seated on a rock, portrayed as a young girl concealing Cupid's bow. Her hair is styled in a chignon. The eyes, with their hollowed pupils, demonstrate Etienne-Maurice Falconnet's ingenuity in bringing his figures to life. The statuette rests on a three-legged base adorned with garlands of flowers and friezes of leaves in gilt brass. The figure is marked under the foot and numbered 1298 in relief.
This model was created by Etienne-Maurice Falconet (1716-1791) in 1761 for Madame de Pompadour, who owned a pendant called "L'Amour Menaçant" from 1757. This representation of the myth of Cupid and Psyche was very successful during the 18th and 19th centuries.
