Alabaster statuette illustrating "Psyche revived by Love's kiss" after Antonio Canova (1757-1822). It rests on a gilded wood base in the shape of a semicircle, adorned with a frieze of pearls. Italian work from the late 19th century. The mythological group commissioned by the English colonel and art collector John Campbell was sculpted in marble between 1787 and 1793. It was acquired by Joachim Murat and is now in the Musée du Louvre. This group has been copied extensively and was highly prized by European travelers on their Grand Tour of Italy at the end of the 19th century. Circa: 1880 Dim: W:45cm, D:20cm, H:42cm. In good overall condition, with a restored toe and a cracked ankle. The tip of one of the wings has been glued back.
