Alabaster statuette depicting "Psyche Revived by Cupid's Kiss" after Antonio Canova (1757-1822). It rests on a semicircular giltwood base adorned with a beaded frieze. Italian work from the late 19th century. The mythological group, commissioned by the English Colonel and art collector John Campbell, was sculpted in marble between 1787 and 1793. It was acquired by Joachim Murat and is now in the Louvre Museum. This group was widely reproduced and was highly prized by European travelers on their Grand Tour of Italy in the late 19th century. 19th century, circa 1880. Dimensions: W: 45cm, D: 20cm, H: 42cm. In good overall condition, with a restored toe and a crack at the ankle. The tip of one of the wings has been reattached.
