Magnificent Regency style dining room set comprising:
- a pair of single-door display cabinets with curved sides
- a pair of sideboards with marble tops
This collection of very fine sculpture comes from the Château de la Haute Forêt in Bréal-sous-Montfort. Collection of Edouard Nignon. Circa 1890
The Château, built in 1857 in a style that blends Gothic and Renaissance elements, is a listed historical monument with its remarkably well-preserved interior: floors, paneling, ceilings, and fireplaces. Édouard Nignon, who commissioned our dining room suite in 1919, lived in the Château until his death in 1934. Édouard Nignon was a renowned French chef with extensive experience and a European reputation. He served Tsar Nicholas II and Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria. From humble origins, he rose through the ranks of the culinary world through his talent, eventually captivating the leading figures of his time. His cookbook, " Éloges de la cuisine française" (In Praise of French Cuisine) , published in 1933, was a great success and remains in print and sought after by aspiring chefs today.
