A bronze statue with a medal patina, " Psyche and Cupid, " by Jean Bulio . It depicts Psyche, recognizable by her butterfly wings, her bare breast holding an arrow. Cupid, a winged child, clings to her leg to retrieve it. The bronze is signed in relief on the base. It rests on a circular base of pink veined marble decorated with a frieze of gilt bronze foliage.
This is a work from the late 19th century.
Jean Bulio (1827-1911) was a French sculptor and graduate of the École des Beaux-Arts. Known for his bronze sculptures, he created busts of historical figures and mythological allegories. In 1859, he exhibited at the Salon with a plaster Pandora.
