Sculpture in patinated bronze, a 19th-century edition after the famous marble by Antoine Coysevox (1640-1720) created between 1685 and 1686. Coysevox, sculptor to the King and favorite of Hardouin-Mansart, created Baroque and antique works for Versailles, in particular the marble replicas of Venus accroupie and Venus à la coquille. The marble original is now in the Musée du Louvre, and has been replaced by a bronze replica at the Château de Versailles. Our model rests on a Sienna yellow marble base with a three-row doucine of foliage in patinated bronze. The front legs are decorated with acanthus leaves and stylized flowers. Restoration period, Circa: 1830 Dim: W:35cm, D:15cm, H:25cm.
