Imposing white marble sculpture "Diane sortant du bain" after Etienne-Maurice Falconet on a gray and red marble birdbath. The late 19th-century sculpture depicts the nude goddess Diana clutching her shirt while leaning on a tree trunk. She rests on a free-standing birdbath with a ringed column shaft. The water-leaf capital is in patinated bronze. The whole rests on a square base.
Etienne-Maurice Falconet (1716-1791) was a French sculptor considered a master of the Baroque school. He became famous for the sculptures he exhibited at the Salon between 1755 and 1757. Madame de Pompadour commissioned "L'Amour Menaçant", one of his greatest achievements.
