column Athenian-shaped Neoclassical mantel in richly carved gilded wood, supporting a circular top in gray-veined Griotte red marble. The latter is extended by a doucine belt bordered by a frieze of interlacing and small pearls, supported by three ram heads, joined by garlands of flowers. The column rests on three curved uprights ending in hoofed feet, covered with foliage and linked by a base forming a terrace adorned with a rosette and foliage scrolls, from which rises a central column, adorned with twisted flutes and acanthus leaves. This Napoleon III-period column, with its carefully treated classical decor, was probably designed to display an objet d'art, such as a candelabra or a bronze sculpture. Napoleon III period, Circa: 1870 Dim: W:40cm, D:40cm, H:115cm. In good overall condition, with the gilding restored. Some wear to the gilding and crack to the marble, restored.
