Bjorn Wiinblad (Denmark, 1918–2006) was a Danish painter, ceramicist, and designer whose works were widely exhibited in Europe and the United States in 1954, and later in Japan, Australia, and Canada in 1968. The artist worked in various disciplines such as textiles, glassmaking, and silversmithing, but he is best known for his ceramic art. Bjorn Wiinblad first studied at the Copenhagen Polytechnic School and then at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts from 1940 to 1943. He subsequently worked as a ceramicist under Lars Syberg in Taastrup before being hired as a designer at the Nymolle pottery factory. From 1957 onwards, Bjorn Wiinblad designed numerous ceramics for Rosenthal, characterized by their exuberance and vibrant, poetic motifs. His style can be described as a hybrid, blending the old and the new, with both medieval and Byzantine influences, while maintaining a distinctly Scandinavian spirit.
