This beautiful table, its 9 chairs and 2 armchairs are part of a rare and important Regency-style dining set in molded and carved oak. The table includes 4 extensions of 50cm each, making a total length of 260cm (with the 4 extensions). This set is for sale on our website and also includes:
- a pair of silver cabinets with a large door, curved sides
- a pair of sideboards with marble tops
The ensemble, of very fine sculptural quality, comes from the Château de la Haute Forêt in Bréal sous Montfort. Collection of Edouard Nignon. Circa: 1890
The Château, built in 1857 in a half-Gothic, half-Renaissance style, is listed as a Monument Historique with its extremely well-preserved interior decor: floors, panelling, ceilings and fireplaces. Edouard Nignon, who commissioned our dining room set in 1919, lived in the Château until his death in 1934. Edouard Nignon was a great French chef of European experience and reputation. He served Tsar Nicholas II and Austrian Emperor Francis Joseph. From humble beginnings, his talent enabled him to climb the culinary ladder and seduce the greatest chefs of his time. His cookery book, Éloges de la cuisine française, published in 1933, was a great publishing success, and is still sought-after by apprentice cooks today.
