Important Louis XV style gilded bronze sconce with red fabric, after Jacques Caffieri. The top presents a quiver filled with arrows and trellis. It is decorated with flowers, trumpets, peonies and daisies. The scrolls in rocaille style are decorated with a putti. The white enamel dial has Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals for the minutes and is protected by a curved glass.
Jacques Caffieri (1678-1755) was a French bronze founder and chaser. Of Italian origin, he specialised in rococo-style furnishing bronze for candlesticks, lamps and furniture. He was a sculptor and chiseller for the king's buildings under the reign of Louis XV. In particular, he made the astronomical clock in the cabinet of the clock of the Palace of Versailles.
