Set of three wallpapers representing the female personifications of three continents: Asia, Africa and Europe. Admired for her wealth, Asia is sumptuously dressed in a gown adorned with embroidery and jewels. Her hair is adorned with flowers and a feathered turban. Behind her is an elongated camel, her animal attribute. Africa is easily identifiable in the figure of a lightly draped woman carrying a cornucopia from which a snake springs. The cornucopia refers to the Nile and the great rivers that nourish Africa. At her feet are a hunting bow and an elephant's tusk. She is accompanied by a lion, her attribute. Europe wears the crown, scepter and shield. She is accompanied by a horse, a reference to Greece and the equestrian art closely associated with the nobility and the military world. Europe is the symbol of the arts and sciences, whose attributes are scattered at her feet. Her crown, scepter and armor express her authority and political power. The 3 scenes are titled and framed by floral motifs. XIX° period, Circa: 1890 Dim: W:100cm, D:2cm, H:78cm. The 3 wallpapers have been restored and re-canvassed.
