Two spindle-shaped porcelain vases decorated in gold with chestnut branches and chestnuts in their husks, on a "Tours blue" ground. The motif covering the neck and body of each vase is typical of the Art Nouveau designs of the ceramist Frédéric Gustave Asch (1856-1911). Active towards the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries, Asch is particularly known for his "Tours blue," a dark blue glaze similar to the famous "Sèvres blue." In his workshops in Tours, he produced vases in Tours blue glazed ceramic, which he decorated with delicate naturalistic motifs, including chestnut branches, in gold. Our vases bear the mark "France" and the small axe for Gustave Asch on the base. One of them is numbered "105."
