This pair of 19th-century chromolithographs by Daumont presents two views of the grand foyer and loggia of the Paris Opera. One shows a detail of a bay adorned with an "Italia" medallion painted by Paul Baudry for the Paris Opera. The young Mademoiselle Suzon du Locle holds a cartouche bearing the artist's signature, "BAUDRY," accompanied by two genii: one lying on his side with his chin resting on a violin, gazing at the viewer, and the other shaking a tamburello. The second lithograph depicts the north tympanum of the octagonal west salon, on the Rotunda of the Moon side. A doorway flanked by two candelabra and surmounted by a very large painting by Félix-Joseph Barrias, "La Musique champêtre" (Pastoral Music), representing figures relaxing in nature, is immortalized here. These two chromolithographs were published in 1880 by Ducher et Compagnie for the book "Le Nouvel Opéra de Paris". Circa: 1880
