An important Rococo mirror in carved and gilded wood in the Louis XV style. The dynamic decoration features vegetal motifs of jagged acanthus leaves, climbing ivy, flowers, and rocaille shells. The large scrolls at the corners allow for mirror inlays, giving this Rococo mirror a very fluid composition. The Louis XV style, also called Rococo, was inspired by Italian Baroque and the rock motifs created in bronze and earthenware at the beginning of the 18th century. The Rococo style, with its elegant and refined curves, developed primarily between 1730 and 1760. Throughout this period, ornamentalists favored curved lines and dynamic motifs.
