An imposing Louis XV style wall clock in gilt bronze, finely chased and covered in red fabric, after Jacques Caffieri. The finial features a quiver filled with arrows and trelliswork. It is decorated with flowers, trumpets, peonies, and daisies. The rocaille-style scrolls are adorned with a putto. The white enamel dial has Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals for the minutes and is protected by a domed glass.
Jacques Caffieri (1678-1755) was a French bronze founder and chaser. Of Italian origin, he specialized in Rococo-style bronze furniture for chandeliers, lighting fixtures, and other furnishings. He was an official sculptor and chaser for the King's buildings during the reign of Louis XV. Notably, he created the astronomical clock for the Cabinet de la Pendule at the Palace of Versailles.
