An imposing white marble sculpture, "Diana Emerging from the Bath," after Etienne-Maurice Falconet, rests on a gray and red marble birdbath. This late 19th-century sculpture depicts the goddess Diana, nude, grasping her chemise as she leans against a tree trunk. She rests on a freestanding birdbath with a ringed column-shaped shaft. The capital, adorned with water leaves, is made of patinated bronze. The entire piece rests on a square base.
Etienne-Maurice Falconet (1716-1791) was a French sculptor considered a master of the Baroque school. He is famous for the sculptures he exhibited at the Salon between 1755 and 1757. Madame de Pompadour commissioned him to create "L'Amour Menaçant" (Threatening Love), which became one of his greatest achievements.
