A baluster-shaped gilt bronze pitcher with a tall, foliate handle, decorated in the round with a young female huntress. The body of the pitcher is adorned with wild ducks in flight amidst a vegetal and aquatic motif. Signed in relief within the decoration: "A. Vibert," and with the foundry mark: "E. Colin et Cie Paris." Alexandre Vibert (1847-1909) was a student of Emmanuel Frémiet and, like Frémiet, devoted a considerable part of his talents to the creation of decorative objects. He is essentially a representative of the Art Nouveau movement, and his sculptures, like his decorative objects, explore the decorative effects of color and varied materials.
