A patinated bronze statue depicting an archer leaning back, drawing his bow. The torso, thrown back, the contraction of the right leg and arm, and the athlete's focused expression illustrate the tension of movement. His nude, athletic body is reminiscent of Greek statuary. This bronze figure evokes Antoine Bourdelle's work, Heracles the Archer. Created in 1909, the ancient hero caused a sensation at the 1910 Salon des Artistes Français. Our figure rests on a rectangular base of polished black marble. Art Deco period, circa 1910. Dimensions: W: 80.5 cm, D: 20.5 cm, H: 41.5 cm. In very good overall condition, with minor chips at the base, barely visible. Beautifully hammered bronze work.
