A bronze trophy, cast using the lost-wax method with a green patina, depicting a slender, nude young man with a small head, his gaze turned towards the sky. He stands between two open hands. The composition of the figure, with his arms behind him and one knee bent, gives the impression that the young man is about to leap forward. The entire piece rests on a superposition of cubic and rectangular bases, inscribed "Grand Prix CIREP 1962 Lunetterie Nouvelle Vincennes". It is signed Revol 62 on the base for Guy-Charles Revol and bears the Valsuani lost-wax foundry mark in a lozenge on the right side.
Guy-Charles Revol (1912-1991) was a French sculptor and medalist. He created the bronze medal of the French Republic in 1969. He was made a Knight of the Legion of Honour and an Officer of Arts and Letters.
The Valsuani foundry is a French foundry founded by Marcello Valsuani in 1908. It produces lost-wax bronze editions in Chevreuse (78). Renowned for its high-quality castings, the Valsuani foundry works with many celebrated artists such as François Pompon, Aristide Maillol, Antoine Bourdelle, and César.
