patinated bronze of Psyche Boyer and Rolland, foundrymen . This bust depicts a young woman with butterfly wings in her hair, her head turned towards an insect perched on her shoulder. The small butterfly likely represents the god Cupid. It is a sand-cast piece made in the Boyer and Rolland foundry workshops, whose mark is visible on the reverse of the bust. On the side, it is inscribed "Mm Léon Bertaux," the foundryman's mark. The sculpture rests on a red marble pedestal atop a rectangular black base.
The Boyer and Rolland foundry produced bronze art pieces and fireplace ornaments between 1869 and 1887. They created them based on models by sculptors. They were notably commissioned for editions of Antoine-Louis Barye.
