The bronze sculpture "Dove" is signed by Mathurin Moreau. It depicts a young woman, draped and with her hair in a chignon, seated on a rock. She is feeding seeds from her left hand to a dove perched on her raised arm. This dancing figure rests on a molded circular base adorned with a cartouche reading "COLOMBE Salon des Beaux-Arts" (Dove, Salon of Fine Arts). The base is signed Math. Moreau and bears the foundry mark of Société des Bronzes de Paris. The entire sculpture rests on a green marble slab.
Mathurin Moreau (1822-1912) was a French sculptor, a student of Jules Ramey and Auguste Dumont. He won the second Prix de Rome in 1842 and made his debut at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1848. He received a second-class medal at the 1855 Universal Exhibition in Paris, followed by a first-class medal in 1878. In 1897, for his final participation in the Salon, he was awarded a Medal of Honor. In 1865, he was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor, and then an Officer in 1885. The Société des Bronzes de Paris produced bronze editions of sculptors like Moreau between 1875 and 1930 at 41 Boulevard du Temple in Paris.
