A substantial Restoration-era gilt and patinated bronze fire grate. It comprises two patinated posts decorated with gilt bronze acanthus leaves, rosettes, and poppy flowers. They are surmounted by reclining mastiffs facing each other. This fire grate can be extended to fit the size of your fireplace.
The presence of the dogs is a play on the origin of the word "chenet," which was also called "chiennet" for small dog. This name comes from the habit dogs often have of lying down in front of the fire. Thus, since the Middle Ages, andirons and hearth bars have often been decorated with dogs.
