Moreau and bears the stamp of the founder Société des bronzes de Paris. The whole is set on a green marble.
Mathurin Moreau (1822-1912) was a French sculptor and pupil of Jules Ramey and Auguste Dumont. He won the Second Prix de Rome in 1842 and debuted at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1848. He won a second-class medal at the 1855 Universal Exhibition in Paris, followed by a first-class medal in 1878. In 1897, for his last Salon appearance, he was awarded a Medaille d'Honneur. In 1865, he was elevated to the rank of Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur, then Officer in 1885. Between 1875 and 1930, the Société des bronzes de Paris produced bronze editions by sculptors like Moreau at 41 boulevard du Temple in Paris.
