This bronze statue with a nuanced brown patina is signed by Eugène Marioton (1854-1933) and depicts a winged man in a slender pose. The nude young man delicately holds a light cloth in his right hand and a dragonfly in the other. His butterfly wings on his back are finely engraved. The casting is from an early edition, and the foundry mark, "E. Colin et Cie, Paris," is engraved below Eugène Marioton's signature at the base. The entire piece rests on a Portoro marble plinth that enhances the sculpture. Eugène Marioton, born in 1857, was a French sculptor and medalist, brother of the sculptor Claudius Marioton and the painter Jean Alfred Marioton. Eugène Marioton trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and participated in the 1883 competition for sketches, where he submitted "The Daughter of Jephthah." He won first prize in the competition of the Société Libre des Beaux-Arts with his marble bas-relief "Hero and Leander." Subsequently, he regularly exhibited at the Salon of the Société des Artistes Français, becoming a member of the jury in 1905 in the sculpture section. He died in 1933. Late 19th century, circa 1890. Dimensions: W: 32cm, D: 23cm, H: 73cm. Very good condition. Some traces of oxidation. Slight loosening at the point where the shoulder and forearm meet.
