A "cathedral-style" clock made of gilt and patinated bronze from the Charles X period. It takes the form of a Gothic church porch with a row of steps on a stepped base and an openwork portal. It is surmounted by a central rose window forming the dial with Roman numerals for the hours. It is flanked by fluted columns with pinnacles adorned with Renaissance-dressed figures in niches. The pinnacle is crowned with a small bell tower topped by a cross. The pendulum is star-shaped. The whole is decorated with gables, trefoils, and Gothic arcade friezes.
The piece is in the Neo-Gothic style, very popular in the 19th century. It reinterprets medieval motifs in a fantastical way, without adhering to historical reality. For example, in this clock, the figures wear clothing more reminiscent of the Renaissance, and they are typical characters of the medieval imagination: the queen and the bard.
